Resistive Exercise Training for the Geriatric Patient

With advancing age, older adults experience a higher risk for
falls, decreased mobility, increasing morbidity, and decreased
quality of life. Defined as sarcopenia, decreases in strength,
power, and function due to age related loss of muscle mass have
been associated with these negative events. Resistive exercise
training has been shown to be a safe and effective intervention
for the management of sarcopenia. With a 10% loss of strength
per decade, especially after the age of 50, and a prevalence rate
of 30 percent costing billions of dollars annually, it is important
for the clinician to understand the neuromuscular and functional
changes that can occur with resistive exercise programs.

2 contact hours will be awarded upon completion of this
free CEU event.
